He died… in a bizarre gardening accident…

Just a quick post to say that I’m not playing at The Caroline of Brunswick tonight. I went back and forth on whether I should play, but I feel like utter shit, so I’ve chosen to be a sissy and rest up.

The gig is still on, with the awesomeness of Adam Bennett, Neil Morris, Richie Blitz and The Redundancies. £2 entry. Absolute bargain. If you’re in Brighton you should definitely go.

In other news, I’m busy editing the tour video from my recent jaunt with Adam Bennett. It currently sits at about 30 minutes, but I’m going to try and make it a bit more concise. So much drunken footage from King’s Lynn to include though…

Hometown shows are better when you don’t live there anymore…

Last night I played at Mr Kyps in Poole, supporting John Otway. It was a pretty different gig to anything I’ve played in a long time. The audience were in double figures (!) and attentive. Definitely a bit too quiet for my own tastes, but really cool nonetheless. Mr Kyps is a great little venue and it was really cool to play a ‘real’ gig with a good turn out. I think this was also the first gig of mine with my name on the tickets. Clearly, the peak of my musical career is now behind me!

I played what seemed to me at least, the most ‘professional’ set I’ve done in ages. I didn’t find myself just playing at 100 miles an hour and not letting up. I managed to chuck in a few new-ish covers and not fuck up too much. Whodathunkit?

Anyway, huge thanks to everyone who came out to see me and to those who bought a CD and also to John Otway and his merch crew and roadie. He was awesome and they were ace. A total pleasure to play a gig with. Also huge thanks to Kyps for putting me on and to Percy, who never fails to make it sound good out front and on stage. I play many gigs where the onstage sounds is shit and the front of house not much better. Percy however, is always on it. He rules!

Here’s a video from the gig. It’s me playing a song by Jenny Owen Youngs called ‘Fuck Was I”. I think it was probably the fourth time I’ve played it live and I think I just about got the lyrics right. Needless to say, the original is way better, but I think I did an okay job for someone who can’t actually sing!

Tour life – more carnage

September 21st, 2010

I’m back from tour and succumbing to a cold. Boo! We had a great time and the best show of the tour was clearly King’s Lynn. Thanks to everyone who put us on though, fed us and got us stupidly drunk.

I was planning to post more photos as we went, but for some reason never got round to it. So here’s a couple more from the King’s Lynn gig:

More video from the vaults…

Here’s another video from the opening night of our tour with Dave Hughes. This was the first performance of ‘The Ballad Of Richmond Town’. It’s slightly wonky, but I think we did a pretty good job of it.
