"The most punk rock folksinger I know" - Frank Turner
Reviews of 'Hee Haw' "an accomplished and unexpectedly stirring second effort from the south coast’s very own walking opinion." Confident vocals, hardcore strumming. Billy Bragg meets Johnny Cash wearing skater pants. Boucher entertains the growing crowd with his energetic style, upsetting at least one observer with his obvious hatred of James Blunt. “How many albums have you sold?” jibes the Blunt fan. “I may not sell albums, but I don’t suck corporate cock” Boucher retorts, quoting hero Bill Hicks. Joined on stage for his finale by ‘Poet’ Hi-Ho and Si Genaro, the trio further enhance the feel-good factor which has developed during the set." - Tony Foster, bhone.co.uk Click here to read the full review Live Review - Opera House, Bourneouth -20th May 2006 "Adam Boucher could play 15 songs in his set if he cut down on the time dedicated to arguing with the audience and generally pissing people off " - Kyle, The Dawn Chorus Live Review - Bournemouth Live!, Pier Approach - 28th June 2006 "In the morning bands appeared to be playing to themselves as the crowds didn’t really arrive until the afternoon when the Butcher Blues Foundation came on stage. This is a shame really as it meant you all missed out on Adam Bouchers “rocker rage” as he completely tore apart the stage sponsors, Honda, by letting the few people watching know how much he despises them. Unfortunately for him, his only crowd was Honda so obviously he was pulled off stage early, but not without a fight! Good on yer dude!" - Sophie Fox Live Review - Antifolk Winter Festival - Friday 16th Feb 2007, 12 Bar London "So first off was Dennis Scunt, who we decided was’nt a cunt, James Blunt rhymes with and (quite possibly) is a cunt. Adam Boucher does not like James Blunt although his West Country version of THAT song beats the original I’d say. It says on Adam's antifolk profile that lazy people liken him to Billy Bragg. (Now I thought long and hard about the next sentence, so brace yourself) Bournemouth's answer to Billy Bragg played a brilliant antifolk festival debut and what’s more discovered a new method of delivery for his songs – playing the drums with his guitar. Rock and Roll points!" - Helen Irvine Full review here Live review - Centre Stage, Bournemouth - 13th March 2007 Proving that I don't just put up the glowing reviews, check out this gem courtesy of Tony Foster at bhone.co.uk: There's no bullshit with Adam Boucher, he cuts to the chase, what you see is what you get. Like Billy Bragg it's open and honest lyrically and hardcore strumming and no fuss vocals musically. Opening with 'Talking Crematorium' we see the best of Boucher, insightful and punchy, both in content and delivery. The rest of the set however was far from the same. For whatever reason it deteriorated quickly, he seemed to lose his ability to sing, perhaps it was the influence (interference?) of Hi-Ho, but the songs worsened, especially when he introduced a backbeat of pre-recorded dirge. His between song banter shows a confidence born out of years of standing lonesome on stage, which begs the question: Why let Hi-Ho run loose and bring the quality down? Adam seems to treat Hi-Ho as a figure of ridicule, although he seems to be happy to play along it simply doesn't work. It's neither funny or more importantly any bloody good. Adam Boucher doesn't seem the type to take advice, so he will probably ignore this. Just stick to what you're good at mate. |
